141,000 FARMERS TO BE EMPOWER BY FARMERS
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, they have provided agricultural inputs of 141,000 households internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the northeast part of the country.
The acting National Representative Mr. Nourou Macki-tall, made the announcement during the start of presentation agricultural inputs to 1,500 internally displaced persons in the Shagari low-cost area of Maiduguri on Friday.
Macki-Tall noted that the exercise was conducted in collaboration with the World Food Program, the Social Welfare Network Initiative and the Borne State Department of Agriculture, which reported that 67,000 farmers in Borno province, 41,000 farmers from Yobe, Adamawa's 32,000 beneficiaries.
He explained that, to date, FAO had achieved about $ 17.5 million for various agricultural projects with the goal of reaching 1.1 million agricultural population in northeastern Nigeria.
"Our goal is to lose their livelihood in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa farmers' communities. Most of the farmers are the basic means of farmer life, farmers can not cultivate for some time.
He explained that, to date, FAO had achieved about $ 17.5 million for various agricultural projects with the goal of reaching 1.1 million agricultural population in northeastern Nigeria.
"We are looking for those who lose their livelihood in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa farmers' communities. Most of the farmers, farming are their basic means of livelihood, can not cultivate for some time.
"Inadequate agricultural inputs are a major constraint to many farmers, especially internally displaced persons," Mr. McGee said.
The 1,500 beneficiaries from the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere received seeds such as Cowpea, Cereals, Millet Seeds, Sorghum, Corn Seeds and Fertilizers.
Other beneficiaries of the Agere Council are mostly women who will receive okra seeds, amaranth, roses, rosell seeds and fertilizers.
