Osinbajo Consults Northern Elders Over Farmers-Herders Conflict
The Federal Government has commenced a series of national consultation with all relevant groups designed to find a lasting solution to the farmers-herders conflict in the part of the country.
At a meeting with some northern traditional rulers and community leader in Adamawa State on Monday at the Aso Rock Villa, Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo assured the delegation of the federal government ‘s resolve and commitment to the entrenchment of lasting peace in all communities across the country.
The meeting, the first in the series, comes on the heels of the vice president’s visit to Adamawa state last week in the wake of the communal clashes in parts of the state.
At the meeting, previous reports on the conflict were presented by the delegation and causes were analysed.
A statement by the media aid to the Vice President Laolu Akande stated that the meeting condemned the acts of violence that occurred, especially the killing of children and women.
It highlighted the need for the law enforcement and other government agencies to objectively perform their constitutional roles.
Following the vice president, visit to Adamawa state last week, several food items and relief materials have been distributed to all the affected communities.
In the next series of meetings, professor Osinbajo will meet with the Batta, Bachama and other groups from Adamawa state
